My path has never wavered.
Let’s be real - compassion alone doesn’t prepare you for walking beside someone you love as they are dying. When my dear friend Rona was nearing the end of her life, I was fully present and still found myself wondering: Am I doing this right? What should I say? What actually helps?
I didn’t struggle because I didn’t care, I struggled because there was very little practical guidance over 25 years ago for how to be with someone at the end of life in a grounded, human way. I was improvising in moments that deserved more than guesswork.
That experience changed everything. I knew this was my life’s work - and that if I was going to support others, it needed to support me too.
All these years later, that passion led me into hospice work, my own doula practice, and to ultimately training over 25,000 hospice volunteers, staff, doulas, and caregivers across the U.S., UK, and Canada. What I learned is that people don’t need more theory—they need clear language, practical tools, and steady guidance. That’s why I created The Essential End-of-Life Doula Toolkit—to offer what I once needed myself.
